Sennheiser PXC 550 Design

Have you ever found yourself as a business traveler looking for more in a wireless headphone? Want to know a secret you will find everything you need in the Sennheiser PXC 550 wireless.

The premium active noise-canceling Bluetooth headphone makes a statement with its outstanding features. The earphones comfortable and weighs 8-ounces.

The ear cup does not have a full opening design and softer. We found if you do have big ears, the pads do sit more on the ear and not around them. However, the ear cup is made of plastic and come with an oval metal band housing the microphones.

On the right ear cup, you get the controls with buttons to switch between the EQ mode and Bluetooth pairing. You get the slider to turn the noise canceling on/off.

The micro USB charging port with a 2.55 jack is found at the bottom of the right ear cup. There are no buttons to control the volume or skip tracks. In its place, there are touch controls on the right ear cup.

One important thing to turn the earphones on/off is the rotating ear cups. Once rotated flat around the neck, the headphones switch off. The feature is excellent as it saves on battery use to use them longer.

Therefore, you do get a more extended listening session without any problems of tiring. Furthermore, the headphones fold up for storage in the carrying case.

How well does the battery perform?

According to Sennheiser, the battery power lasts up to 30-hours without a recharge. We did not time it, but during our use, we did not find the battery running out quickly.

The biggest gripe we have is that there is no audio battery indicator present. You can find a series of lights on the right ear cup underneath but easy to miss.

Compared to the QuietComfort 35s from Bose, this one does not alert you with the battery status when turned on.

Is the PXC 550s a great performer—let’s find out!

The sound impressive and handles multi-layered sound well. You can hear the voice and instruments as it’s separated and gives a pleasant soundstage.

One thing sure these headphones excel in the mid and trebles as you can hear guitars with clarity. While the bass end is active, you might not find them pleasing if you love bass-heavy music.

Even listening to podcasts using the EQ modes made listening easier. The four-equalizer styles are Club, Off, Movie, and Speech.

Furthermore, the wireless earphones, when using the noise canceling on the busy streets, did not work as effectively without using the EQ modes. We found using the Speech mode the best to boost the mid and treble frequencies.

On the other hand, it does deal well with low background noise while walking but allows in sound caused by the vibration of trains.

Lastly, using touch controls is frustrating to use and does have a learning curve. At times when wanting to skip tracks, you activate the volume controls instead.

However, the PCX 550 sounds excellent compared to other touch control rivals making it a worthy contender even with the touch control problems.
