It is safe to say that the past shapes the present and in turn, determines the future. When Sony began talking about PS4, they regarded the lessons learned from previous consoles and in this case the PS3. Mainly, the first lesson learned by Sony concerned the pricing. To this end, it would be wise for Sony to consider the price aspect when it finally releases PS5.

Additionally, PS3 had launched at $600, keeping in mind that the current cost of living is high with inflation. It is evident that by reducing the purchase price of PS5, Sony will have managed to tap into a broader market base. This was taken care of in the PS4 whose launching price was pegged at$400, which is $200 less than its predecessor though at a cost. This was a good starting point. The fact of the matter is that the PS4 benefited greatly from competitive prices. In the long run, a few hundred dollars less than the competition is going to pay off. This was a significant plus for the PS4, and Sony would be wise to continue the trend into the PS5

Expected features of PS5 technology

The type of technology employed in the development of the consoles also matters. Developers who could successfully utilize PS3 were those who knew how to work the cell processor since it lacked consistency in the system’s titles and thus warranted changes and subsequently improvement on the quality. It would be wise if Sony while developing PS5 develop a system that is more consumer-friendly. This has taken care of by PS4 with Sony choosing a more easy to develop for a system. The system has been lauded by developers as one that is easy to create games for. The happiness of developers has transformed on to the end-users who, in this case, are gamers.

Gamers also loved PS3 for its lack of region coding and the fact that the games were easy to buy and sell. This same flexibility was transferred to PS4 by Sony where a gamer could play used games without necessarily requiring an internet connection. This is simply because the sense of ownership is inherent in virtually all human beings. All these are benefits from learning from mistakes in the previous generation of console development.

Predictably, these elements will evolve into the PS5 technology considering. Each console acts as a testing ground for new and innovative ideas that if successful will carry on to the next generation. It’s no secret that digital distribution is far less expensive than making discs. The cost of a particular system will be determined by how digitalized it is.

Digital downloads are becoming more and more prevalent, but there’s no denying that people still like to have a physical disc. The reason why they hate the downloads so much is download waiting time as the games finish to install. PS4 implemented a feature where you can begin playing before the download finishes. Yet, the PS5 will release in the time of Light Peak technology. It promises download speeds of up to ten gigabytes per second. Waiting won’t be an issue. When the PS5 releases, discs will be a thing of the past. Sony is already preparing consumers for this change by having the option of downloading any purchased game.

It is quite predictable that PS5 technology will be widespread enough that the mass production of the consoles will not be an issue as it may be feared. This is good for the consumer as it will subsequently bring down costs considerably. Besides, the state of the world economy could. Hopefully, it should be better in a decade or so, taking into account the rate inflation and other potential indicators; the PS5 may not be as expensive as we think.
