The Spark is small enough to fit comfortably in hand but is not as little as the Mavic Air from the same brand is. You still get enough power with fantastic features to meet your needs and more.

Furthermore, it might not have a huge battery life compared to other powerful camera drones. However, it is ideal for casual use and great for snapping photos and videos from above the sky.

On the other hand, you get an intuitive and easy to use Quadcopter with insightful control. Once you start flying the drone is becomes more manageable, and the features deliver flawless use.

With the size, it launches from your hand, and there is no need for pressing buttons. The craft has an intelligent function FaceAware to help make the launch simpler.

The software automatically lifts and hovers once it recognizes your face. Another handy feature to take selfies is the gesture function to move your drone in place and capture images. There is no need of using a remote or pressing buttons handy you must agree.

You can even capture images of groups with the wide-angle lens. Do you know what is more? The drones filled with tools you can try.

You do everything with a tap, and there are four options available for you to use. You can capture pro footage as the drone flies in a dedicated pattern to provide footage as the professional filmmakers do.

The modes are

  • Drone and the craft flies backward and upwards
  • Rocket and the aircraft flies in a straight up line
  • Helix the drone ascends in a spiral pattern
  • Circle and the drone fly around in circles

Alternatively, you can use TapFly to control the drone’s direction using your phone. Another handy function is the ActiveTrack for capturing moving objects. For using all the features, the camera locks onto an object.

How powerful is the camera with the gimbal?

One thing we noticed with the Spark is that it does not have an excellent speed or range compared to some of the best camera drones.

However, the camera does an excellent job and can handle strong winds as well. You get a two-axis gimbal to make sure the footage is not shaky.

Furthermore, it is equipped with an f/2.6 wide-angle lens and captures detail on the ground. We found it takes excellent footage with the CMOS sensor.

On the other hand, it is not for professional photos but more for family images and hobbyists. If you want to take cinematic 60fps footage, you best look at the DJI Mavic Pro.

You can use the Spark to capture images in landscape and close up shots offering you versatility. Alternatively, you can stream 720p footage in real time with the HD Wi-Fi technology onboard.

To add to the mixture, you can use the DJI Go 4 app for editing and sharing content on your phone. The drone is equipped with an SD card slot.

Does the Spark have safety flight features?

You get a full collection of safety functions using the Spark. You will find the drone is continuously aware of its surroundings to launch and land safely. Furthermore, it avoids obstacles when flying, as well.

Alternatively, you can even use it in the home without it bashing into the ceiling or objects in the way. However, when the battery gets low, you will lose the connection.

There is a return to the home button you can press, and the craft returns home to its present point safely. On the other hand, it has a GEO system warning you when it is flying in a restricted area. The drone informs you how much battery use is left.

For fun flying and taking quick shots in the air, the DJI Spark is what you need. You do not have to be a drone pilot to fly this thing and comes with palm controls. While it is not cheap, you will need to get an extra battery combo pack and remote control to operate it a bit longer.

Furthermore, it is easy to use and has a compact design to take with you anywhere. You get subject tracking, and it takes videos and images well. The speed and range are limited, but it comes with excellent flight safety features. Therefore, if you need a basic camera drone to fool around with the Spark has everything you need.

Our Verdict

The DJI Spark is an advanced Quadcopter with intelligent modes and provides great footage. The battery does not give loads of flight time, but you can solve this with extra combo battery packs.

Furthermore, it is fun to use and great to capture family moments, selfies, and videos without being an expert drone pilot. However, if you need a more professional camera drone, we recommend the Mavic Pro.
